Does Solar Make Financial Sense

Is solar cost-effective? If your Electric bill is over $100, the answer is yes. There are many ways to purchase a solar system. You can pay cash upfront to see the quickest return on your investment. You can take out a solar loan that will cost less then what you are currently paying to the utility company. You can enter into a solar lease or PPA (power purchase agreement) to lower your monthly payment and see quicker initial savings. Whatever way you decide to pay for your solar system, you can start with no money out of pocket and not have to pay the utility companies rising rates.

SOLAR CAN COST LESS THEN WHAT YOU CURRENTLY PAY FOR ELECTRICITY

How To Get Started With Solar Energy

The solar process is simple. We will guide you through each of the steps so you can enjoy clean renewable energy hassle-free.

1. Free Consultation

A SunGrid Solar energy consultant will meet with you at your home and examine your roof and electrical panel. Your energy consultant will then proceed into your home and discuss your energy needs with you, and the many benefits solar panels for your home can offer. You will be educated on what the utility company charges you and how to eliminate excess charges when switching to renewable energy. A financial analysis showing your return on investment, payback period, 30-year saving, financial options, and more will be presented to you along with a detailed report on your proposed system. Our energy consultants are all very friendly and do not pressure you into making on the spot decisions. We are confident that after a solar consultation with SunGrid Solar, you will be well equipped to make the smart decision of saving thousands of dollars by switching to solar energy. Your energy consultant will answer all your questions so you feel comfortable when making your final decision. We offer virtual consultation for those who are not comfortable with meeting in person right away. Speak to your energy consultant on how you can set an online consultation.

2. Solar Designs

Once you have decided to move forward with solar panels for your home, one of our installation crew members will visit your home for a site survey. They will take measurements of your roof so we can determine the exact location of your solar panels. Our installer conducting the site survey does not need to enter your home and can take all the necessary measurements without disrupting your day. After all the measurements are successfully taken, it will be turned in to our team of expert solar designers who will customize your system and provide all the necessary calculations needed in order to obtain city permits. The designers will arrange the panels to ensure maximum exposer and efficiency to get the highest levels of production for your system. The process takes about one week from the date of your site survey. Your site survey will be scheduled typically one to three days after you have signed your solar agreement. After your designs have been completed, your energy consultant will send you a copy of your solar plans for approval. Once approved, we will be ready to submit the plans to the city for permits.

3. City Permits

The team at SunGrid Solar will take care of all the paperwork needed from your utility company and city in order to obtain city permits. Every city varies on turnaround time when it comes to obtaining city permits. Typically city permits can take one to seven days to receive but recently due to Covid-19 we are seeing turnaround times that can take up to two weeks or more. SunGrid Solar will follow up daily with your city to ensure the fastest turnaround time possible. If your home has a homeowner association we will need to get approval from them before we can submit for permits. Most HOA's are familiar with the solar process and have a department that helps your home meet the requirements the HOA will request. SunGrid Solar will deal directly with your homeowner's association to make the process easy for you. Some additional signatures may be required from you for their final approval. Once your HOA has approved your solar plans we will submit the application to the city for permits. You will soon be approved and ready to move to the installation stage of your solar project.

5. Solar Activation

The final step is called PTO or Permission to Operate. This is where we request from the utility company to switch you over to an NEM or net metering schedule. Net metering is where your electric meter will read in reverse and give you credits for when you overproduce during hours you are not home and using less electricity than usual. This is how you can not have a bill when consuming energy at night when the sun is not singing on your panels to produce electricity. At the end of the year, if you have leftover credits, you will receive a check in the mail from the utility company for your overproduction. This is called a true-up, and you will only be billed once a year. Please watch this video to understand more about what net metering is and how it will apply to you. Understanding NEM. After successfully receiving PTO from the utility company, we can now turn your system on so you can enjoy the solar panels for your home and all the benefits that renewable energy will bring. SunGrid Solar will provide you with a monitoring app so you can see your production in real-time. We will also send you monthly reports and monitor your system 24/7.

4. Solar Installation

When it comes time for your solar installation, your energy consultant will contact you to schedule a date for material delivery and installation. Material delivery will be delivered one day before your installation. One of our team members will come to your home and receive and inspect the delivery to make sure all the parts are correct for your solar installation. On the day of installation, our expert installer team will show up in the morning and begin work on your home. Installation can take one-two days, depending on the size of your system. If your home requires an electrical panel upgrade, an additional day may be added. Once your system has been installed, our team will test the system and make sure the area is clean. Within a few days, a city inspection will be scheduled where an inspector will meet our lead installer to sign off on the system, ensuring that it meets all city requirements and functions correctly. After the city inspection has been passed, there will be one last step from your utility company called PTO or permission to operate before we can turn your solar system on.
